Fall :: Leaves :: Autumn A creative way to teach about Autumn and changing leaves. Your kiddos will love creating and putting on their own personal touches on this unique twist on a Fall craft. Paper lanterns are great for developing fine motor skills such as: folding, coloring, painting, gluing, cutting, listening and following directions. Embedded within this Autumn project there are several activities to extend your students learning about Leaves. These units are designed in a Mix and Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want, depending on the needs and the abilities of your students…so many possibilities. This unit can be approached in several ways. Either as a quick Fall craft that will take about 90 minutes to complete. Or as long, in-depth project that will take upwards of a week or two to complete. In my classroom, creating the basic lantern will take my kiddos about 90 minutes (coloring and assembly). Adding on Apples or Apple life cycle cut-outs will take an additional 45 to 60 minute block of time. 3D Black Bear Research Model A creative, integrated research project, classroom decoration and 3D model all rolled into one Cute Black Bear Activity. However, I strongly recommend teaching and creating each part individually, then putting the whole creation together. With my Kindergartens, I do one step at a time. I like to use shorter teaching sessions so that these cuties do not become an overwhelming project. Now that my Kindergarten have created many lanterns, they are experts and do not need as detailed step by step instructions. Once completed they love making the bunnies hop all around the room. There are so many different possibilities. So many ways to create this 3D Rooster lanterns using glitter, paper layering, leaves, shredded paper, cotton pieces, tissue paper... Make sure to add the Rooster legs, arms and tail…too cute! These lantern crafts are great for developing fine motor skills, following the directions and listening skills. I currently teach Kindergarten and my little ones love creating lanterns. I just teach each step in isolation and then put it all together. This is a great activity for buddy classes to work on…again teach the steps in isolation and then put it together. With my buddy class, these lanterns will take a few sessions to complete.
